The gates remained open well into the night. And even as the guards continued their frequent patrols of the grounds, the gates were still open, as if no one noticed the gaping security breach. Vatican City, in its midnight silence, seemed to be waiting for something, welcomingly.
He moved through the shadows of the wide corridors, undetected. After all, he was the hunter, and so appointed to carry out the deeds of those much higher than him. He wore no face mask, no gloves. Dressed only in black pants and shirt, he almost strolled into the foyer of the papal living estate holding in one hand, an olive branch—a special gift for a special god. Yet, his subconscious sense of gravity determined his steps the closer he came to the central chambers.
The Vatican is the Holy See of the Roman Catholic Church, the heart and soul of the Faith. It is the home of the Pope, St. Peter's Basilica, and the Council of Cardinals.
