The child very much enjoyed the regular Saturday visits to Edinburgh Castle for brunch. And on this particular morning, she was insatiable, quickly consuming fish and chips, and a Scottish egg. The nine-year-old had grown “like a sunflower” her stepfather had said, since last summer, and now she stood at an even five-feet tall and weighed fifty-eight pounds. Tall and thin, her most striking features were her long, black hair and deep green eyes. Already a Middle Eastern beauty at so young an age, her copper complexion provided a stark contrast to the probing nature of her crystal eyes.
Limited to only one Scottish egg per visit by her stepfather who never let her forget how her past indulgence lead to a messy stain of vomit on the backseat of the Audi, she now wandered away from the outdoor terrace in search of her favorite spots on the castle grounds. It didn’t matter to her that on her birthday the morning gloom held in its cool moisture a heavy foreboding. She lived almost completely within herself, often ignoring the unpleasant sides of existence for the sake of embracing what made her happy. Besides, the weather never spoiled her childhood wonder or curiosity, and it certainly would not keep her from marveling at the massiveness of the structure, or at the view of the surrounding areas from the castle’s high position in the central city.
Edinburgh is located on the east coast of Scotland, overlooking the North Sea.
